Dr Nick Thomson is a Director of Maxwell Consulting (ACT) Pty Ltd. He has been providing management training and consultancy services to a wide range of public and private sector organisations throughout Australia since 1990. He has a relaxed, confident approach to program facilitation, and is widely recognised as a trainer/consultant who can work very effectively with diverse groups across a wide variety of workplace situations. He consistently receives excellent evaluations for almost every training workshop he conducts.

Nick has a particular expertise in the area of strategic thinking, and in December 2006 was awarded a Doctor of Business Administration by the University of Canberra for his research on Scenario Planning in Australian Government. His research involved an in-depth longitudinal study of the application of scenario planning (as a component of wider strategic and business planning processes) across six Australian Public Service agencies.

Currently he regularly co-presents, on behalf of the Centre for Public Management, a three-day residential program for Executive Level APS staff on Leadership and Strategic Intelligence. In August 2010 he co-developed and presented with Dianne van Meegen a tailored program in Collaborative Policy Formulation for the Department of Human Services. He also develops and delivers a range of training in strategic thinking for Executive and Senior Executive level staff in various APS agencies, as well as at law enforcement conferences arranged by the Australian Federal Police in Singapore, Indonesia, China and New Zealand.

He also has expertise and considerable experience in the delivery of training in the areas of people management, team leadership, performance management, and presentation skills for public sector agencies such as the Australian Federal Police, the Department of Finance and Deregulation, Centrelink, Geoscience Australia, the Australian Public Service Commission, Department of Industry, Tourism and Resources, AusAID and the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations.

Nick is a member of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Studies, and was a member of the Publications and Products Advisory Committee of the Institute from 1999 until December 2002. He is an accredited presenter for a number of instruments, including the Hermann Brain Dominance Instrument, the Myers Briggs Type Indicator, the Team Management Index, the Executive Leadership Profile and the Strategic Intelligence Profile.
