Geoff Cameron

Canberra

Geoff Cameron joined CPM Reviews in mid-2008 and since that time has completed nine reviews and investigations across a wide range of APS and ACT Government agencies.

Geoff has over thirty years experience in the Commonwealth public sector, mostly within the Commonwealth's central HR agencies, the Public Service Board (PSB), the Merit Protection and Review Agency (MPRA), the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) and the then Public Service and Merit Protection Commission (PSMPC).

In 1979 Geoff was one of the original staff of the Grievance and Appeals Bureau (GAB) within the PSB and played a significant role in the development of the legislation which created the Merit Protection and Review Agency (MPRA). He moved to the MPRA on its establishment in 1985 and managed the Grievance function for seven years. He also convened Promotion Appeals Committees and has been involved in a wide range of significant grievance reviews.

On moving to the PSMPC in 1996 Geoff was heavily involved in the development of the Public Service Act 1999 and its implementation in APS agencies, including the APS Values, the Code of Conduct, employment arrangements and merit based employment decisions. In addition to his work on the development of the Act he has made many presentations to APS agency staff and management on the legislation and its implications for their work including on APS Values, the Code of Conduct, ethics and employment.

Since leaving the APS in 2002 Geoff has worked on grievance reviews, misconduct inquiries, inefficiency processes, the development of agency staff management procedures, classification and remuneration reviews and human resource management on a consultancy basis. He has also undertaken two missions to Papua New Guinea to provide advice to the PNG Civil Service Commission on its grievance handling procedures and to provide training to staff of the Commission.
